About Me

I am part of the Group Marketing team at PHSC PLC, where I oversee and coordinate marketing activity across seven business units. My role involves planning and delivering integrated multi-channel campaigns, producing and managing content for both our website and Websuite platform, and overseeing email marketing and social media activity. I also work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives, while monitoring and analysing campaign performance to drive continuous improvement and measurable results.

PHSC PLC specialises in managing the health, safety, compliance, and security of people and property. The organisation provides a comprehensive range of services, including training, consultancy, inspections, and additional support solutions tailored to client needs.

Why I chose to complete an apprenticeship

I chose to undertake the apprenticeship to refresh and develop my marketing knowledge after taking a five-year break from the industry. I wanted a structured way to rebuild my confidence, update my skills, and ensure I was working in line with current marketing practices. The apprenticeship provided the ideal opportunity to combine learning with practical application in the workplace.

What I have learned during the programme

Throughout the programme, I have developed a strong understanding of key marketing theories and frameworks, as well as more effective and structured approaches to planning and delivering campaigns.

For example, I have learned how to apply structured copywriting techniques such as AIDA, which has improved the quality and impact of my content. I have also gained a clearer understanding of the full marketing process, including campaign planning, briefing, stakeholder engagement, and reporting.

The apprenticeship has helped me adopt a more methodical approach, ensuring that campaigns are planned with clear objectives and measurable outcomes, rather than being created without a defined strategy.

In addition, I have developed my ability to analyse data, which enables me to make informed decisions about which platforms and approaches are most effective. This has been particularly valuable in shaping future marketing activities.

How I have applied this knowledge in the workplace

I have been able to apply my learning directly in the workplace, including delivering my first group marketing campaign for Black Friday. Using the frameworks and processes learned during the apprenticeship, I was able to plan, structure, and execute the campaign effectively.

Through data analysis, I identified that LinkedIn is the most effective platform for our business, as it aligns best with our target audience. This insight has allowed us to focus our efforts more strategically, rather than spreading activity across less effective platforms such as Facebook or X.

I have also improved my ability to identify and engage with our target audience, which has contributed to increased customer engagement and new business opportunities. In addition, I have developed skills in managing marketing budgets and considering return on investment, ensuring that campaigns deliver measurable value.

Benefits to my future career

Since starting the apprenticeship, I have progressed from a Marketing Assistant role to a Group Marketing position, where I now oversee marketing activity across seven business units.

The knowledge and skills gained through the Multi-Channel Marketer apprenticeship have supported my professional development and contributed directly to this progression.

Looking ahead, I plan to continue my development by enrolling onto the Marketing Manager Apprenticeship, building on the strong foundation I have gained.

Impact on my employer

Prior to my apprenticeship, there was limited structure to marketing activities within the business, and no dedicated marketing function in place.

Through applying the knowledge and skills developed during the programme, I have helped introduce a more strategic and structured approach to marketing. This has included improving our understanding of our target audience, selecting the most effective channels, and ensuring activities are aligned to business objectives.

As a result, the organisation has been able to generate more business opportunities and improve overall marketing effectiveness. I have also ensured that marketing activities align with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

Additionally, when a new CEO joined the business, I was able to produce a comprehensive marketing report, providing clear visibility of current activities and performance, supporting informed decision-making at a senior level.
